Literature Text

The full moon was shining like a giant ten pence piece in the indigo-coloured sky. Millions of stars were out, making the sky look like a sparkling ocean. The moon shone through the beautiful tall, deep green trees, emphasising the shadows that fell behind them, making them appear greater and more sinister. The once fully-bloomed flowers were now dead through the winter's chill. Golden, brown and red leaves coated the ground like a comforting blanket, crunching and rustling with each step. I approached the small stone circle that stood before me. Carefully and quietly, I lifted enough stones and leaves to clear a space to make my altar. I lay down my midnight-blue altar cloth onto the ground and lit two black candles, placing one into a clear glass lantern that I had hung onto a branch. When my altar was complete, I knelt down and started to chant, in the ancient language Sanskrit, my spell.
